​CHAPTER FOUR: THE FORGOTTEN PIRATE HANGAR

The joy in Jax’s heart knew no bounds, the joy that could only be found in the heart of a man who had finally completed his mission. Since the coast was clear, he could safely make his way towards the huge rock that loomed ahead of him.

He arrived there and found himself staring at the tail end of what appeared to be a large ship. He looked beyond the door to the airlock he was currently staring at, but he saw nothing except space and darkness.

That part of the ship must be camouflaged, he thought. He turned the large wheel on the airlock, which was unsurprisingly easy, thanks to his impressive strength. Without any further invitation, he stepped into the compartment. He could not wait to take off the helmet, and so the helmet went off once his feet stepped into the airlock.

He took a deep breath, just revelling in that particular moment for a bit of time. It was when he had settled that he finally looked around and realised how huge the hanger was. If he was being honest, that hanger could contain a ship about ten times the size of his ship which was abandoned behind. He walked through the huge room for what felt like an eternity, until he finally arrived at another huge door.

He opened the door and found himself staring at the biggest private hangar he had ever seen. Then it dawned on him; he was standing inside a forgotten pirate ship hangar. On either side of him, there were ships lined up. He ran a quick scan, but none of those ships showed any signs of life.

The further he moved in the hangar, the more lights came on. He realised that every ship in that place was destroyed. There was something significant missing in each of the about twenty ships that sat static in that room. A few of them were missing a wing, and some others were missing their engines.

He examined each one of them physically, wondering if there was anything that could possibly be salvaged from them. Unfortunately for him, he did not find anything even as little as food rations. The ships were completely empty, and he understood why there was nothing like life in those ships.

He got down from the tenth ship he examined when he heard a small noise in a far corner of the room. Because there was no other movement, the sound reverberated around the entire room, so Jax could not be mistaken about what he heard.

“Hello?” Jax called out hopefully. When he heard no reply, he moved in the direction of the sound. “Who’s there? I don’t want any trouble.”

He held his hands up, showing that he posed no threat. With time, he realised that he didn’t need to because the movement came from a small two-wheeled robot that was missing an arm and almost half of its face. The naked wires and sparks would have made anyone else hang back and keep their distance, but Jax bounded towards it, picking it up without a thought.
